My Favorite Genre to Edit

What is your favorite genre of books to edit?

A few months ago, I asked my followers on Instagram to ask me questions about editing or myself. I got this wonderful question from my friend, Jazmine, @jazzys_books: What is your favorite genre of books to edit?

Well, most of what I’ve edited are also genre’s I enjoy reading! In a way, that’s good because I know all of the ins and outs and what readers expect in that genre. The downside is trying not to get lost in the story because I enjoy it so much! I do have a few tips I employ so more on that later.

First, my favorite genre is fiction

Now, let’s divide fiction further.

I really enjoy editing fairy tale retellings for a young adult audience mainly because of the creativity in retelling these stories. There are so many versions of Cinderella and Beauty and the Beast out there, so it’s always fun to see how an author chooses to spin a tale. I’m also a firm believer in YA books needing to be spice free. You can never have too many spice-free YA books, so I love helping bring them to life.

I also love romantasy! It’s the perfect marriage of fantasy plus romance, and I love exploring budding relationships combined with the intricacies of fantasy. Whenever I get a romance storyline to edit, I always make sure to follow the typical romance story beats (more on that in another post). Bringing characters and their relationships to life in any story brings me joy!
