Welcome to my new blog! I’m excited to share my journey with you. I’ll be sharing editing tips, inspiring messages, books I’m currently reading, and maybe other things that I do outside of reading and editing.
Today, I want to discuss being a mom and an editor. I am a mom to two cute boys aged 4 and 7. They are so much fun and so much work at the same time. I don’t claim to be the perfect mom who knows how to balance work and motherhood. Most of the time, I struggle with it. But I live for the moments when we spend time together and find joy being creative.
I’ve always loved reading and have tried to instill that in my boys. My boys love a good, engaging story, especially when Mom or Dad uses character voices and make them laugh. Reading is such an important activity for kids because it gets their imaginations going. They hear patterns and rhymes, which helps in their development. And most importantly, they learn about the world around them.

When I read stories with my boys, I’m learning about creativity, about different ways to look at topics, and I can apply these when I’m editing. My favorite editing is developmental editing, especially young adult fantasy. There’s something so magical about being whisked to a far away kingdom and seeing people learn and grow and finding love and themselves along the way. With editing, I get the opportunity to help the author develop their story and watch their “baby” grow. I look at the plot and see if it would make sense to a reader. Do the characters have an arc and moments where they overcome their weaknesses and turn those into strengths?
Because that’s what life is about. I’m doing the same thing with my children. I’m identifying their weaknesses and trying to see how we can turn those weaknesses into strengths. Our plot in life is still developing. We have milestones that we hit, and I’m sure we’ll have some plot holes that need filling, not to mention all of the plot twists that happen practically everywhere I look.
But despite this, I can edit my life and redefine who I am as a mother and who I am as a person. It’s hard to be a mom with so many distractions around us. It’s also hard to work from home and have the kids at home as well. But with a little persistence and some creativity, I can achieve what I want to achieve.
